Project Animtopia : The Begining

This is a blog to document the creation process of a short computer animated film to be created by a team of animation students at Northeastern University over the next 18 months.

We have only just begun the pre-production process of planning and designing the film but this is what we can tell you about our team and our philosophy:

We are a diverse range of students whose skills and interests vary widely across the fields of animation and filmmaking both creatively and technichally.

We are focused on collaboration and community based filmmaking. This project is not about realising a single director's vision, but working as a team and bringing together the multi-disciplinary talent surrounding us into one great film.

As students of animation we are dedicated to making a film that is aesthetically pleasing and technically impressive. However, as filmmakers we prioritise the emotive powers of filmmaking, and its abilities to create vivid worlds, lovable characters and nuanced plots.

Finally, we want to approach this film using techniques and processes applicable to the film and animation industries. This involved spending time meticulously planning out and perfecting the story and visual of the film before beginning to animate it, as well as distributing the work along a complex pipeline of artists so that everyone is able to contribute to the areas of the film that most fit their particular skill set, making each shot of the film a team effort across a range of artists.

Keep checking this website - more will come soon! Our next steps involve creating deisgns for the characters, concept paintings of the sets and environments, and storyboarding out the length of the film.
